Inspection and repair before next season
A wet freeze-thaw winter is hard on hardware, even commercial-grade hardware. If you own your lights: a takedown and storage checklist
If you hang your own lights on a reachable single-story house, the same principles apply at a smaller scale.
- Wait for a dry day. Wet rungs and wet shingles are how January ladder injuries happen.
- Test before you take down. Plug everything in one last time and flag dead sections with tape, so you know what to repair or replace before storing it.
- Coil by location. Label each string to where it came from. Future you will not remember.
